The Sharks will host the Buccaneers in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 20

Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team (3-7, 0-1 SSC) fell 8-2 to Barry University (4-5, 1-0 SSC) on Friday night in the first of a three-game series to open up Sunshine State Conference play.

Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) pitched a complete game, giving up 13 hits, six walks and getting three strikeouts. Jones picked up the loss to move to 2-4 on the season. Geneva Santos (3-1) got the win for the Buccaneers, giving up six hits, two walks and earning 11 strikeouts.

The Buccaneers started off strong, putting up three runs off of four hits in the top of the first. They would add another two in the top of the second and one more in the top of the third to go up 6-0 over the Sharks.

The Sharks tried to answer in the bottom of the third as Rachel Minier (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) began the inning with a single to left, but would leave two runners stranded. NSU would see their two runs come in the bottom of the fifth. Ashley Roe (Jr., Flower Mound, Texas) began the rally with single through the left side. Minier, who went 2-for-3 on the night, hit one to right field to move Roe to second and put two runners on. The runners advanced off a sacrifice bunt by Dakota Villella (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) followed by a Katey Blummer (Jr., Naples, Fla.) hit to score Roe. Two back-to-back walks would load the bases and then bring Minier in to score.

Barry would score their final two runs in the top of the sixth and the Sharks would not be able to answer.
